Helping Our Troops
Whether you agree or disagree with the war in Iraq, our troops are over there and they need us to support them. They are, right or wrong, fighting in our behalf and one woman has realized this and has done something about it. I am an avid reader of Fark.com and recently saw a link there that went to an article about Kristen Maddox. This girl has created a non-profit company and began sending troops needed amenities with her own cash. Thankfully, now she is receiving donations through the mail and her website. I sent her an e-mail to express my appreciation of her and to let her know that at one time a single act of kindness to me personally changed my life forever (for the better). She responded very kindly with the following: Thank you so much for what you said. I have tried to live my life in a way that helps others. I have been doing things like this since I was a little kid. My mom told me I used to put band aids on snails when I was about 3 years old. I've always thought that if I can make a difference, even a small one, I should. I know what it is like to not have a lot. When I was little, my family was very poor. I am happy to hear you are doing better. It's amazing how a simple act of kindness can change someone's life forever. I hope I can have the same kind of impact on people, that that person had on you. I plan on continuing to do this, for troops and veterans of all wars. Your email means more to me than I could ever tell you. I hope I can make a difference in people's lives. Thank you! Kristen Please visit her site and decide on your own if you'd like to help her goals. She really is a unique woman.
